Whirlpool 4396508-2

What is the difference between the 4396508 & the -4396508-2?

Whirlpool originally had one manufacturer make there filter under a patent. As the patent has now finished other manufacturers have been licensed to manufacture this filter. The '-2' series is a USA made filter made to the same standards and offers a slightly better price.

What is the benefit of having a water filter in my fridge?

The 4396508-2 Filter removes the following impurities from your drinking water:

  • 99% of Lead, 91-96% of Mercury, 96% of Benzene, more than 99% of P-Dichlorobenzene, 92% of insecticides, 99% of Chlorine and 95% of rust, dirt, sand and sediment (1 to 5 microns in size).
  • The 4396508-2 does NOT remove Fluoride.
  • Overall, it provides better tasting and smelling water with
    improved clarity.

Changing the filter regularly in your ice/water refrigerator also reduces the build-up of scale in your ice-making mechanism thereby reducing the need for costly services.

The 4396508-2 cartridge is tested and certified by NSF International to meet or exceed NSF/ANSI Standards 42 & 53.

How do I install my new filter?

Installing your new water filter:

  • Remove the filter by turning anti-clockwise about a quarter of a turn and pulling forward.
  • The filter handle is transferred to the new filter, by sliding off, and is refitted by inserting with the handle in the vertical position and rotating clockwise until it stops.
  • The filter must be rotated completely, to open an internal valve, allowing water to flow. Note: you do not need to turn off the water tap to remove the filter.
  • Reset your "change filter" light (if your fridge has one).

Resetting your "change filter" light:

Press the light switch (the one that the refrigerator door presses every time you close the door) 5 times within 10 seconds.
